Quality has a Name - "Das Seekarhaus"
History of the Hotel
Hotel "Das Seekarhaus" has its origins back in the 17th century, as former housing for workers in the local silver and copper mines.
The owners of the Seekar Silver & Copper Company began remodeling the building into a hotel in 1923, with it subsequently being rechristened as Sporthotel Seekar.
However, the business foundered financially and had to be sold to the German & Austrian Alpine Association.
But even back then, people recognized the tourism potential of the area around Obertauern. The purchase of the Seekarhaus created an important foundation for the development of winter sport.
After the Second World War, a major building boom began in the region of the Radstädter Tauern.
Numerous lifts, tourism businesses and hotels were constructed. Das Seekarhaus was now one of the oldest establishments in Obertauern and, because its amenities were no longer up to prevailing standards, could only be rented out as a hostel for skiers.
